DT Swiss' Special Grease is specifically designed for lubricating the pawls and ratchets in DT Swiss Hubs.
Standard bicycle greases (like Motorex Bike 2000 Grease) are generally too thick for use in freehubs and will prevent the drive system from engaging, and oils are often too thin and will migrate away from the moving parts leaving them exposed to wear due to lack of lubrication.
To use, simply remove the hub end cap and freehub, then thoroughly clean all the ratchet components and springs and apply a light layer of grease on all the contact surfaces. We've attached a little video below that outlines the entire process.
It is compatible all DT Swiss freehub systems, including:
- Star Ratchet
- Ratchet LN
- Ratchet EXP
- Ratchet EXP OS
- Ratchet DEG
- 3 Pawl
The grease is also recommended for the wide range of hubs that DT Swiss manufacture for other brands, including:
- Roval
- Syncros
- Giant
- Bontrager
The grease features of a composition of Molykote TP 42 with a 5% mineral oil admixture and is sold in 20 g tubes (it was previously sold in 20 g tubs but these are in the process of being discontinued).
