Dick Lechien founded Maxima all the way back in 1979 with one product - a castor-based two-stroke oil. The story goes that his son, Ron Lechien, who was at the time a young and upcoming motocross racer, had found an excellent motor oil that outperformed everything else on the market, only for it to be discontinued. Wanting to give his son the best chance at winning, Dick blended a batch of oil himself, and Maxima was born. 45 years later, they still sell that original 2 store mix!
While Maxima is relatively new to the retail bicycle market, only launching bicycle branded products in 2014, they have worked closely with RockShox for a long time with RockShox using their oils across most of the RockShox suspension range.
We stock Maxima as they are one of the few lubricant manufacturers left that actually spends years testing and formulating proprietary blends, rather than just a marketing business that simply sticks labels on generic products. They blend and bottles nearly all of their products in their Southern California facility with the exception of aerosols which are bottled by an outside firm.
